11. MCAM Inserts

If you wish to use the MCAM to image objects other than a well plate, it may be beneficial for you to use a different insert to accomodate your sample.

We’ve included STL models that should accomodate almost any well plate. These STL models should be readily importable by your favorite 3D printing software. We offer the models in two different configurations. The first fits within the footprint of a well plate. The second fits within the footprint of the larger insert that is included in many MCAMs.

They come with 2 important features for usability:

  1. Each insert is labelled with the size of the petri dish it accomodates.

  2. The inserts are designed with cutouts for your fingers to accomodate easy insertion and removal of a petri dish.

Use the following download links to obtain the STL files of the insert of choice. We provide them in 5 mm increments from 85 mm to 30 mm.

Note that the models above are all specified based on the outer diameter of the base of the Petri dish itself and not the outer diameter of the lid. Often 100 mm Petri dishes are used with a 90 mm diameter base. Take a quick measurement of your Petri dish with a ruler to ensure you print the correct insert on the first try!

In the spirit of making these easily adaptable, you can also copy and modify the models themselves by accessing the original model on OnShape.
